FAQ
Which charger is suitable for my battery?
All Bosch Professional 12 V or 18 V batteries are compatible with all Bosch Professional 12 V and 18 V chargers and all 18 V chargers from the AMPShare partners.
We recommend that professional users combine the charger with a battery that has a charging time of less than one hour.
All charging times can be found in the online operating instructions or on the Bosch Professional website.
What are the charging times for my battery?
The charging time of the battery depends on two factors:
- Battery type and battery capacity
- Charging speed
All charging times can be found in the online operating instructions Charging times or on the Bosch Professional website.
Can batteries remain in the charger after they have been fully charged?
As soon as the battery is fully charged and the charger indicates this, the charging process is complete.
The battery can remain in the charger; however, storing the battery in the charger for any extended period of time is not recommended.
At what temperatures should a battery be charged, used and stored?
- The permitted ambient temperature during operation and storage is –20 °C to 50 °C.
- The recommended ambient temperature during the charging process is 0 °C to 35 °C.
- To ensure optimal battery service life, it is recommended that you store the battery at between 0 °C and 20 °C.
What are the signs that my battery should be replaced?
The battery loses capacity as it gets older. This means that the charging time appears shorter and the older battery supplies energy for significantly less time, even when it appears to be fully charged.
What battery charge is optimal when storing for an extended period of time?
A state of charge of 30–50% is ideal when storing for an extended period of time.
What battery charge is optimal for a longer service life?
A state of charge of 80% is ideal for a longer service life.
How does a battery age?
The service life of the battery depends on the profile of the discharging current that the battery maintains when being used with a power tool. The discharging currents can vary significantly depending on the selected power tool and application combination.
If the battery becomes too hot during discharge, the "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)" actively regulates the power output of the power tool until the battery has reached its optimal operating temperature. There is no risk of overheating with Bosch lithium-ion batteries. This guarantees maximum service life.
To be able to use the battery for as long as possible, users should follow a few simple rules with regards to storage, usage and charging.
- Storage To ensure optimal battery service life, it is recommended that you store it at a temperature of between 0 °C and 20 °C.
- Usage: The service life of the battery depends on the profile of the discharging current that the battery maintains when being used with the tool. These currents can vary significantly depending on the selected tool and application. Thanks to the exclusive Bosch ECP technology (Electronic Cell Protection) a Bosch lithium-ion battery will never overheat.
- Charging: To extend the service life of the battery, it is recommended that the battery be charged up to 80%.
Where should I dispose of old batteries?
Specialist retailers will take care of the environmentally friendly disposal of Bosch batteries, free of charge. This takes place through the "Joint Battery Take-Back System" (GRS).
In this way, valuable materials are returned to the raw-material cycle, preserving our resources.
Are Bosch Professional batteries compatible with other brands?
All 18 V Bosch Professional batteries are compatible with the following products:
- all products from the Bosch Professional 18 V system
- all products from AMPShare partners
What is Bosch heat management and the COOLPACK technology?
Heat is generated in the battery cells when the battery is in use. If this heat is not dissipated, the battery cells heat up quickly. This can cause damage over an extended period of time.
Heat-dissipating materials and effective architecture keep the cells cool, at the same time considerably increasing service life and runtime.
Bosch heat management, with its COOLPACK technology, ensures that heat is transferred quickly and evenly from the inside of the cell to the outside of the battery.
